AULD 2017 championship weekend VI
The best teams in North America will be meeting up in Montréal this coming August to see who will be crowned the top team of the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL). After successfully convincing the AUDL that Montréal was an ultimate city, the Royal de Montréal will now host the VI Championship weekend from August 26 and 27, 2017. The Royal de Montréal’s three seasons proved the savvy of the organizational committee, who succeeded in attracting media giants like TVA Sports as well as the public to its games. “We enjoy great visibility with the media who broadcast our games and our fans who are always filling the bleachers. We offer a fantastic game experience that families, aficionados or people new to the sport love. Our level of organization has made Montréal really stand out,” explained Jean-Levy Champagne, Royal co-owner.

The sentiment was shared by Steve Gordon, AUDL commissioner.
“The Championship weekend in Madison in 2016 really raised the bar, in terms of both atmosphere and the game, and we expect Montréal to take it a notch higher. Montréal has an avid ultimate community that attends Royal games in record numbers and offers a picture-perfect setting for the final event of the season. Given the strong support of the Royal owners, we believe that this will be the best Championship weekend ever, and couldn’t be more excited.”

The organizing committee has its work cut out for them for this major sports gathering.
“Our goal is to beat the attendance record. In 2016, 3,400 fans watched the game and we think that we can pull in a crowd of 4,000,” said Champagne. According to the co-owner, it’s a challenge that can be met: the Royal has been beating attendance records ever since it joined the AUDL and still holds the record for the number of spectators at a regular season game. Mark August 26 and 27 on your calendars, because it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss! Follow the Royal de Montréal at and on social media for the latest news from your professional ultimate team and the Championship weekend.
