August 24th to 27th, 2017 - Old Port - Quai Jacques-Cartier
NomadFest: Dive into the world of cowboys and country music in the heart of the city August 24 to 27, 2017 - Old Port of Montréal - Jacques-Cartier Pier

The Jacques Cartier Pier will become the hitching post for the first edition of NomadFest Rodeo Urbain from August 24 to 27, 2017. For four days straight, cowboys and cowgirls can enjoy a brand-new immersive country experience. The festival, which was created by TKNL Productions in cooperation with the Festival Western de St-Tite, Videotron and Coors Banquet, features three distinct components: music, gastronomy and rodeo performances.

This exciting new urban event gives visitors the chance to enjoy an authentic and educational country-inspired experience. There will be an interactive zone, where participants can go back to their country roots and their hand at typical cowpoke activities like horseshoes or lasso throwing. A number of exhibitor booths will also round out this unique festive hoedown. MUSIC

The festival site will hum with the sounds of toe-tapping country music. The main stage will feature country, new country, bluegrass and folk bands while over at the saloon, piano players and dancers will liven up the ambiance.

The program kicks off at 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 24 with a show by Celtic country-rockers Bodh’aktan. On Friday, August 25, at 7 p.m., spectators can enjoy a concert line-up starring Paul Daraîche, Martin Deschamps, William Deslauriers, Laurence Jalbert, Véronique Labbé and Yves Lambert. Later that night, at 9 p.m., the same artists will be back onstage for a special tribute to Dédé Fortin. Festival organizers have been working closely with the Fondation Dédé Fortin to produce the concert, which will pay homage to the former front man of the Quebec band Les Colocs. Rounding out Friday’s entertainment is singer and harmonica player Carl Tremblay at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday, August 26: The man who describes himself as a “cowboy in sneakers,” Pascal Allard, will put on an electrifying show at 1 p.m. Later that day, Véronique Labbé, who has performed 19 times at the Festival Western de St-Tite and who is also the artistic director of the musical segment of the programming, takes the stage at 7 p.m. She will be followed at 9 p.m. by Irvin Blais, the Gaspé-born country music sensation, who will be performing his biggest hits. On Sunday, August 27, Véronique Labbé and David Jalbert will be joined by musical guests for a closing concert at 2 p.m.

GASTRONOMY

The NomadFest Rodeo Urbain adventure continues with a gourmet component, featuring a superb collaboration between leading chef and restaurateur Ian Perreault, chef Jonathan Garnier and the talented pastry chef Rémy Couture. Together, they have developed a southwestern culinary theme especially for the festival with menus and novel ideas to dazzle the thousands of expected festival-goers. Local food artisans and producers will also be present at this unique and festive happening.

RODEO PERFORMANCES

Activities will include four evenings of top-calibre rodeo competitions in a 5,000-capacity show ring. There will be dressage and skills competitions, saddle and bareback bronc riding, bull riding, barrel races, rescue racing and exchange rider events. Some 150 professional riders from cities across North America will be dazzling spectators with their phenomenal skills.

The urban rodeo component of the festival is produced by Festival Western de St-Tite. It has more than 50 years of experience under its belt and has been hailed as the best of its kind in North America by the International Professional Rodeo Association (IPRA) for 16 years running.

For the past 25 years, TKNL has produced more than 12,000 events and created more than 600 permanent installations in Québec, the United States and Europe. They have created the NomadFest Rodeo Urbain, an urban country festival that lets you reconnect with your inner cowboy! See you there!
